General Information
Activities in the sphere of Economics at the International Rubber Study Group are centred on the interpretation and analysis of economic factors shaping the development of the rubber and related industries. Utilising an extensive statistical database, coupled with in-house expertise and extensive industry relations, the IRSG is able to provide a unique and authoritative perspective of real value to both governments and industry.
The mainstay of the Group’s regular analysis is contained within its flagship report, the Rubber Industry Report. The document, produced bimonthly, is the only publication of its kind that offers complete coverage of the world rubber industry, spanning analysis of trends of production, consumption, trade, stocks and prices of natural rubber and synthetic rubber. An in-depth focus of end-use sector developments is also provided (see publications section).
In addition to the regular analytical service and expertise offered by the IRSG, a Work Programme exists. This involves the undertaking of studies on relevant industry issues that are of interest to both governments and industry. Such studies require extensive research and analysis, and entail industry consultation and fieldwork.
Staff regularly contribute and present analytical papers at various international conferences and, these and other papers produced by the Secretariat, which address a range of economic and techno-economic subjects, are published.
The IRSG also prepares and submits project-proposals for financial support by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) and other funding institutions, and acts as a supervisory body for approved projects.
